On the Water

Let’s face it, the pool just isn’t going to cut it this summer. Choose something different and bring the excitement back with an outdoor adventure on Redding's multiple pristine lakes and rivers.

TIME Magazine labeled Redding the “unofficial capital of kayaking” for its weird obsession with a paddle, and the best part is there are plenty of places to do it. The local favorite is Whiskeytown National Recreation Area with the sparkling and always full Whiskeytown Lake perfect for kayaks and paddleboards. Want something a bit more high-speed? Let the fun continue on Shasta Lake, where you can tie the water skis, wakeboard or tube to your boat and rip up the water for an all-day escapade.

For the more thrill-seekers, you can live on the wild side as you paddle your way through the white water rapids of the Trinity River with guided rafting trips. If slower-moving waters are your preference, stick to the Sacramento River and take a leisurely rafting trip under the world-famous Sundial Bridge, a Redding landmark.
