Welcome Winter at Mt. Shasta Ski Park

By Choose Redding | 12/9/2022

Ready to hit the slopes? You’re in luck – Mt. Shasta Ski Park opens Saturday, December 10th, and we have all the information you need to strap on your skis and make the most of the winter season. With lots of snow, miles of trails, and (spoiler alert!) a new ski lift, you'll be ready to head up to the mountain and hit the slopes!

Mt Shasta Ski Park is a haven for winter sports of all kinds, offering skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and more on the slopes of the spectacular 14,000’ high Mt. Shasta. With small-town charm and low crowds, it’s the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the large resorts and feel like you have the entire mountain to yourself! The park also has 635 acres of skiable terrain, four lifts, and routes for all skill levels, offering a world class experience.

With lots of snow, the 2022-23 winter season is already shaping up to be a fantastic one at Mt. Shasta – but there’s something special that makes this season especially exciting for visitors to the park. After years of planning, the Mt. Shasta Ski Park is debuting a brand-new ski lift! The new Gray Butte chairlift adds 211 acres of skiing to the park for intermediate and expert skiers, including the park’s first double black diamond route.

Whether you’re new to skiing, or just need a refresher, Mt. Shasta Ski Park has everything you need to make sure you have a good time. The park offers equipment rentals and lessons for all ages, so it’s easy to get out there and have a great time. Need to warm up? Stop by the lodge for multiple dining options (and hot coco of course!)

Mt. Shasta Ski Park is an easy drive from Redding, making it the perfect addition to your Redding winter trip. Just hop on I-5 north from Redding and take Exit 736 for Hwy 89 eastbound. Once you’re on HWY 89, drive 4 miles east then turn onto Ski Park Highway. You’ll find Mt. Shasta Ski Park just down the road, ready to welcome you to a winter wonderland!

The park recommends that you purchase your lift tickets, rental equipment, and lessons online ahead of time. Note that cell service can be spotty in the park, so make sure to print or download your purchase confirmations before you arrive. Wear warm, layered clothing and calf high wool or synthetic socks. Sunscreen and sunglasses are also recommended - even if it’s cloudy, the sun rays bounce off the snow toward unsuspecting areas, like under your nose, and chin, and there's noting worse then having to explain to your family and friends how on earth you managed to get a sunburn from the snow!
